Bilt made a fresh set of major rewards announcements on October 27, 2026. Some rules changed immediately; others begin in January 2027 or when a current cardholder reaches a card anniversary. The headline is not simply that housing points are being simplified: current cardholders face a potentially irreversible choice about keeping 4% Flexible Bilt Cash.
The essential decision: If your Bilt card account opened before January 1, 2027, Bilt says you can keep the 4% Flexible Bilt Cash earning option by opting out of its refreshed card benefits in card settings before your first card account anniversary in 2027. Do nothing, and the refreshed housing-only structure takes over on that anniversary. New cardholders accepting an offer on or after January 1, 2027 do not get the 4% earning choice. Bilt's updated card program FAQ.
This guide focuses on announcements and documentation updated October 27 through November 2, 2026, rather than rehashing the original early-2026 card launch. We separate rules in effect now, scheduled changes, and items whose full rules have yet to be released.
Considering a Bilt card? Now may be the time to apply
Bilt confirms that anyone who accepts a Bilt Card offer on or after January 1, 2027 will not have the 4% Flexible Bilt Cash earning option. If the ability to earn 4% Bilt Cash on eligible everyday spending appeals to you, consider reviewing and applying for a Bilt card before the change—but only if it fits your needs and budget. To qualify for the existing-cardholder transition, your Bilt account must actually be opened before January 1, 2027. Submitting an application alone does not guarantee approval or opening before that date. Eligible existing cardholders must also opt out of refreshed benefits in card settings before their first card account anniversary in 2027 to retain the 4% option. Confirm the official timing and opt-out rules with Bilt.

The 2026–2027 timeline: when changes actually take effect
- October 27, 2026 — in effect: Bilt Cash awards now expire at the end of the month 12 months after the earning date. There is no December 31 forfeiture rule or $100 rollover limit. This applies to previously earned Bilt Cash, too. Bilt has also changed the timing of annual Bilt Cash credits to the card anniversary.
- January 1, 2027 — new card offers: Newly accepted Bilt cards have the refreshed housing-only rewards structure; the 4% Flexible Bilt Cash mode is no longer an option for those new accounts.
- January 1, 2027 — hotel redemptions: Using Bilt Cash for eligible Bilt hotel bookings changes from a monthly allowance to two redemptions per calendar year. Existing cardholders keep their pre-anniversary card benefit structure until the anniversary unless they make a change.
- January 15, 2027 — Daily Rewards: Eligible housing payments and qualifying neighborhood transactions begin unlocking Daily Rewards. For members without a qualifying card, Daily Rewards replace guaranteed points on housing payments.
- Your first card account anniversary in 2027 — existing cardholders: Refreshed card benefits take effect automatically unless you opt out in time. Bilt defines this anniversary as the first day of the billing cycle after the original account-open anniversary; check your actual date in the Bilt app.

The big choice: keep 4% Bilt Cash or move to automatic housing points?
Today, eligible existing cardholders can choose between two bonus-rewards approaches, on top of their card's regular purchase-point earnings.
- Flexible Bilt Cash: Eligible everyday card purchases earn 4% back in Bilt Cash, an ecosystem-specific rewards balance. It is not 4% unrestricted cash back to your bank account. Bilt Cash can be redeemed for eligible partner credits, benefits, and to unlock housing points. For housing, the published conversion is $30 of Bilt Cash for 1,000 Bilt Points, up to 1 point per housing dollar, with the applicable balance and redemption restrictions.
- Housing-only: Instead of the extra 4% Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, your qualifying everyday spending determines an automatic housing-point multiplier of up to 1.25 points per housing dollar. Regular card spending-point multipliers are separate and stay the same.
Under the 2027 refreshed benefits, housing-only is the cardholder option. Existing eligible accounts may opt out to retain Flexible Bilt Cash and their applicable legacy credits. That opt-out freezes the legacy rewards choice; Bilt says you cannot keep switching between Flexible Bilt Cash and housing-only after the anniversary. You may move from legacy to refreshed benefits later, but Bilt does not offer a return to the legacy earning mode once you make that move. An upgrade or downgrade of your Bilt card also moves you to the refreshed benefits. Bilt's cardholder transition FAQ.
What we think matters: A familiar 4% number may sound better than a points multiplier, but these benefits pay in different currencies, face different restrictions, and reward different behavior. Decide based on whether you will actually spend the Bilt Cash you earn and on the amount of regular card spending you are comfortable directing to Bilt. Never spend extra or carry credit card debt merely to reach a rewards tier.
Housing rewards: the precise spending thresholds
Bilt's refreshed housing-only structure is calculated using eligible everyday spending on the Bilt card in the same billing cycle as the housing payment. Spending outside the housing payment must reach a percentage of that payment:
- Under 25% of housing amount: 250 Bilt Points for the qualifying housing payment.
- At least 25%: 0.5 point per housing dollar.
- At least 50%: 0.75 point per housing dollar.
- At least 75%: 1 point per housing dollar.
- At least 100%: 1.25 points per housing dollar.
Example — $3,000 monthly rent or mortgage: Spend $600 on eligible everyday purchases and the housing reward is 250 points; spend $750 for 1,500 points; $1,500 for 2,250 points; $2,250 for 3,000 points; or $3,000 for 3,750 points. These are illustrative housing points only, not points from the everyday purchases themselves. Qualifying spending, housing transaction rules and timing still apply. Source: Bilt's October 27 card program FAQ.
Important distinction: Paying a $3,000 mortgage through Bilt does not count as $3,000 of everyday purchase spending toward the tier. Bilt describes card-based housing payments as drawn from a linked bank account, leaving the card's available credit line for everyday purchases. This program is not a way to pay a large mortgage balance using your credit line without regard to its rules.
A meaningful comparison: $3,000 housing and $2,250 everyday spending
Assume a customer pays $3,000 in housing and already spends $2,250 on eligible everyday purchases monthly. Ignore the card's normal purchase-point earnings, because those continue under either option.
- Refreshed housing-only rewards: $2,250 reaches 75% of housing, earning 3,000 housing points. There is no additional 4% Bilt Cash on that everyday spending.
- Legacy Flexible Bilt Cash: $2,250 of eligible purchases generates $90 in Bilt Cash. That cash can be used for eligible Bilt ecosystem redemptions, or potentially to unlock up to 3,000 housing points at the published $30-per-1,000-point rate, subject to the actual balance and redemption rules.
The tradeoff is substantial: redeeming $90 in Bilt Cash to unlock 3,000 points is an effective cost of 3 cents per point in foregone Bilt Cash value where that cash could otherwise be used dollar-for-dollar for a benefit you genuinely wanted. At a hypothetical personal point value of 1.5 cents each, 3,000 points are worth $45, not $90. But a member who cannot use Bilt Cash's other limited benefits, or who can obtain unusually high transfer value, faces a different calculation. This is an illustration, not an official Bilt valuation, and it is not a claim that every redemption is available on demand.
Our decision rule: If you can use Bilt Cash at a practical near-dollar-for-dollar value across eligible services, protecting the legacy 4% option could matter. If you value simpler automatic housing earnings, achieve higher spending tiers without changing behavior, and prefer the refreshed annual credits, housing-only may be better. Compare first-year/annual credits, recurring housing points, actual cash usage, and fees separately. Bilt Cash redemption rules.
Bilt Cash lasts longer starting now—but it still has limits
This is an immediate improvement. Bilt Cash earned October 10, 2026 now expires October 31, 2027; Bilt Cash earned February 7, 2026 expires February 28, 2027. Each award has its own month-end deadline, including already earned awards, and Bilt says it spends the soonest-expiring Bilt Cash first.
That removes the old year-end rush and $100 rollover restriction. It does not make Bilt Cash a general cash withdrawal, universal statement credit, or transferrable airline currency. Usability still depends on eligible merchants, monthly or annual caps, and the terms of each redemption. Bilt Points and Bilt Cash are different currencies; don't add their face amounts together. Bilt's updated Bilt Cash FAQ, October 27.
The hotel-credit swap: more flexible dollars, fewer hotel redemptions
For cardholders moving to refreshed benefits, the annual benefits change as follows:
- Bilt Blue ($0 annual fee): No new annual hotel-to-cash credit. Housing rewards shift to the refreshed structure unless an eligible existing holder opts out.
- Bilt Obsidian ($95 annual fee): The old $100 annual hotel credit (two $50 periods) is replaced with $100 in annual Bilt Cash.
- Bilt Palladium ($495 annual fee): The old $200 annual Bilt Cash plus $400 annual hotel credit becomes $600 annual Bilt Cash.
Bilt Cash annual credits are awarded on the account anniversary, not automatically on January 1. Those amounts are Bilt ecosystem balances, not free cash or a reduction of annual fees. If you remain on legacy Flexible Bilt Cash, you retain the applicable old hotel credits instead. Source: Bilt card program FAQ.
A less favorable change applies to Bilt Cash used for eligible hotel bookings from January 1, 2027, with a two-night minimum:
- Blue and Silver Bilt status: up to $50 per redemption, twice yearly, maximum $100/year.
- Gold and Platinum status: up to $100 per redemption, twice yearly, maximum $200/year.
- Eligible refreshed-benefits Palladium cardholders: up to $200 per redemption, twice yearly, maximum $400/year.
Previously, Bilt Cash hotel limits reset monthly ($50 or $100 by status), potentially enabling substantially more total hotel discounts for frequent travelers. Also note that $600 of Palladium annual Bilt Cash does not mean $600 can all be applied toward hotel stays under the twice-yearly hotel rule. Other eligible ways to use Bilt Cash remain subject to their own terms and limits. Source: Bilt Cash official FAQ.
One transition trap: Bilt says Palladium holders may still receive a $200 hotel credit on January 1, 2027, and Obsidian holders a $50 hotel credit. If they transition at their first anniversary, any unused applicable hotel credit expires then and their new Bilt Cash credit is issued. If they opt out beforehand, they can retain the legacy hotel credits. Verify your account anniversary before booking. Bilt transition examples.
Point Accelerator expands to refreshed Obsidian and Palladium cards
Bilt's updated guidance says Obsidian and Palladium cardholders on refreshed benefits can use Bilt Cash for the Point Accelerator, even without the old Flexible Bilt Cash earning mode. Bilt's published offer uses $200 Bilt Cash to unlock an extra 1 point per dollar on up to $5,000 of eligible card purchases per activation, with up to five activations per calendar year, subject to its terms and expiry. This can be attractive only if the additional 5,000 points you actually earn are worth more to you than spending $200 of Bilt Cash elsewhere. At the full $5,000 spend, that represents 4 cents per incremental point; not every member will find the exchange attractive. Official Bilt Cash and Point Accelerator information.
Separately, every Bilt member still earns $50 Bilt Cash per 25,000 eligible Bilt Points toward status under the updated announcement. That milestone is different from the retired 4% everyday Bilt Cash earning option.
Daily Rewards begins January 15: not a guaranteed lottery win
This is a separate change that also affects Bilt members without a Bilt credit card. Starting January 15, 2027, an eligible on-time rent or mortgage payment through Bilt can earn a Daily Reward; so can eligible activity at a participating neighborhood merchant. One qualifying everyday neighborhood purchase must be at least $5, and Bilt generally limits those ordinary activity rewards to one a day. A housing payment can earn an additional reward that day. Housing payments qualify for a reward once per eligible 25-day period.
Each Daily Reward reveals two choices: potentially an immediate prize such as Bilt Points or Bilt Cash, or a collectible piece toward a bigger prize. Bilt has promoted a chance at $1 million toward a home, 10 million points, housing paid for a year, and other prizes. A grand prize requires collecting all four relevant pieces, is subject to review, and is not guaranteed. Rewards must be revealed within 30 days; collectible sets reset at year-end. Bilt says an alternative, no-purchase method of entry will be available and fuller official prize rules will arrive before launch.
The important economics: non-cardholders will receive Daily Rewards in place of guaranteed housing points on payments from January 15. Bilt cardholders still earn eligible housing points under their card arrangement plus Daily Rewards on top. The program's actual average value cannot be fairly estimated until prize odds and full official rules are published. Official Daily Rewards FAQ and Bilt's October 27 launch announcement.
Elite status: new rental-car matches and hotel-booking options in 2027
Bilt has announced additional status features for 2027, subject to the final redemption and partner terms:
- Platinum Bilt members: access to status matches for SIXT ONE Platinum and Hertz President's Circle.
- Gold and Silver members: access to SIXT ONE Gold and Hertz Five Star status matches.
- Gold and Platinum members: the ability to use Bilt Points toward eligible Home Away from Home hotel bookings, with certain luxury-hotel benefits.

Other recent Bilt news worth separating from the 2027 overhaul
The rewards ecosystem has expanded recently, but these are not changes to the housing multiplier:
- October 20: Bilt added JetBlue TrueBlue at a 1:1 transfer ratio. Bilt notes different minimum transfer requirements by status, so check the transfer screen. Bilt's JetBlue announcement.
- September 23: Bilt added Amtrak Guest Rewards at a 2:1 Bilt-to-Amtrak transfer ratio. A 2:1 ratio is not interchangeable with JetBlue's 1:1; assess actual ticket value. Bilt's Amtrak announcement.
- November 2: Bilt announced its $300 million acquisition of sports-loyalty platform LAVA. It signals an intended expansion into sports and entertainment engagement, but does not yet constitute a new guaranteed Bilt cardholder earn rate or perk. Bilt's acquisition release.
What existing Bilt cardholders should do before 2027
- Find your account anniversary in the Bilt app. It is not necessarily December 31 or January 1; the opt-out deadline is before your own anniversary, as Bilt defines it.
- Check your current rewards setting. If you value 4% Flexible Bilt Cash, explicitly opt out of the refreshed benefits in card settings before the deadline. Do not assume that merely currently choosing Flexible Bilt Cash automatically protects it.
- Inventory how you really redeem Bilt Cash. Monthly Walgreens, rideshare, dining, and other ecosystem credits have limits. A nominal 4% earning figure isn't worth 4% to you if much of the balance goes unused.
- Estimate the housing tier you can achieve naturally. Compare actual qualifying spending with your rent or mortgage amount, and consider other cards that may earn better rewards in those spending categories.
- Consider whether you use hotel credits. A $100 or $400 hotel credit can be better or worse than the same nominal Bilt Cash amount depending on your travel habits and hotel restrictions.
- Check upgrades and downgrades carefully. Bilt says moving between card products transitions you to refreshed benefits, even after opting out.
- Avoid spending to chase a prize. Daily Rewards have eligibility rules and unpublished full prize terms; a large headline prize is not a reliable expected return.
Questions readers keep asking
Can I keep 4% Bilt Cash forever?
Bilt presently offers an opt-out for eligible accounts opened before January 1, 2027. That preserves the old rewards mode under the stated terms, but it is not a guarantee that Bilt can never revise its program in the future. The election is not automatically made for you.
Does every Bilt card earn 1.25X on rent or mortgage in 2027?
Up to 1.25X, not a flat 1.25X. Your housing multiplier depends on eligible non-housing card purchases in the matching billing cycle. Below the 25% spending threshold, Bilt specifies 250 points for the qualifying housing payment under the housing-only method.
If my Obsidian or Palladium card switches, do I get cash in my bank account?
No. The annual $100 or $600 award is Bilt Cash usable through Bilt's eligible redemption options. It is not an unrestricted bank-account deposit and not the same currency as Bilt Points.
Is every eligible housing payment worth a guaranteed Daily Rewards prize?
An eligible payment earns a reward opportunity under the new rules; the specific options vary and the largest prizes are not guaranteed. Members without a qualifying Bilt card should not equate this with guaranteed housing points.
Bottom line: simplify the rules, but don't make the choice on autopilot
For new applicants in 2027, Bilt is simplifying one of the most complicated decisions: qualifying cardholders earn housing points according to everyday card spending, without a separate 4% Flexible Bilt Cash mode. For current cardholders, the greatest value may be the ability to choose—but only if they understand the anniversary deadline and actively elect to keep the legacy benefits. Longer Bilt Cash expiration is good news. Reduced hotel redemption frequency and the replacement of non-cardholders' guaranteed housing points with chance-based rewards deserve closer examination.
